Dermal Fillers & Injectables

Natural signs of aging include wrinkling, sagging and sun damaged skin. These signs show on women as well as men. As we age, our skin is exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet rays as well as environmental pollutants, resulting the reduction in the cells’ ability to produce hyaluronic acid. The skin tissue becomes dehydrated, causing elastin and collagen fibers to lose their structure and resulting in the loss of skin volume and formation of facial wrinkles that are the common characteristics of aged skin.

Fortunately, there are many non-surgical options available to help you counteract the aging effects and can fill the gap between skin care products and a surgical procedure. Neurotoxins (such as BOTOX® and Xeomin®) along with injectable dermal fillers are two options that can work alone or in combination with other procedures to improve the appearance of fine lines, creases, wrinkles, scars, and volume loss areas. Injectable dermal fillers can also be used to augment your facial structures, such as lips and cheeks, and to give a fuller, more youthful appearance. In a convenient location, Joie De Vivre MedSpa of Chattanooga offers a multitude of dermal fillers and injectables for both men and women.

dermal fillers injectables
There are a multitude of dermal fillers in the market and they differ in their chemical makeup and longevity. They also have varying degrees of softness, flexibility, and strength. Softer fillers can be used in the lips and in areas where expression or movement take place, while sturdier fillers may be used to enhance cheekbones and temple areas or areas that do not have much movement. Joie De Vivre MedSpa of Chattanooga can help you determine the best type and volume of filler needed for all your areas of concern.
Calcium hydroxyapatite (Radiesse®)

Calcium hydroxyapatite is found naturally in human bones and is a mineral-like compound. It’s often used for:

  • Alleviating moderate-to-severe creases such as marionette lines and nasolabial folds
  • Enhancing fullness of the cheeks and other facial contours
  • Improving volume in areas of facial wasting from disease such as HIV-positive people taking certain medications
  • Smoothing the skin’s surface, rejuvenating hands, and eliminating unsightly cellulite

Calcium hydroxyapatite is biosynthetically produced, which means that no animals or animal products are used. This lowers your risk of an allergic reaction and no skin testing is required. This type of dermal filler is known to produce a very natural result, does not migrate, and side effects are very rare. This dermal filler was first used in dentistry and reconstructive surgery and has a long safety record.

Hyaluronic acid (HA)

Brand names include: Juvederm®, Bellotero®, Versa® and Restylane®.

HA injections can be used to improve the skin’s contour and reduce depressions in the skin due to wrinkles, scars, injuries, or lines. You can see dramatic improvements for:

  • Acne scars
  • Cheek depressions & loss of volume
  • Crow’s feet at the corners of your eyes
  • Nasolabial folds (deep smile lines that run from the side of the nose to corners of the mouth)
  • Marionette lines at the corners of the mouth
  • Loss of volume in aging lips
  • Redefining lip border
  • Multiple types of scars including burns, acne and wound-related scarring
  • Smoker’s lines; vertical lines on the mouth & lips

HA is a natural substance made in your body. High concentrations are found in soft connective tissues and in the fluid surrounding your eyes. HA is also in some cartilage and joint fluids, as well as your skin tissue. It is extracted and reformulated and now has become one of the most popular kinds of injectable fillers. If the term sounds familiar, it is because the same substance is often injected into the aching joints of people with arthritis to ease pain and provide extra cushioning.

Injectable fillers are both safe and effective, but it is important that patients are in relatively good health and have realistic expectations about their treatment. At Joie De Vivre MedSpa of Chattanooga, we will educate you, giving you an in-depth explanation of how all these injectables work and how they can best help you meet your cosmetic goals.

All patients will need to have an initial consultation with the team at Joie De Vivre MedSpa of Chattanooga before undergoing treatment. During this consultation, we will discuss your medical history and your cosmetic goals. Patients will be given the information on each procedure, potential risks, and the associated costs. We can then decide which filler or combination of fillers can best suit your needs prior to scheduling your treatment. Consultations can be done in person or via telemedicine.
All patients will be administered a topical and/or local anesthetic before receiving any filler injections.

The injection of fillers is fairly simple, involving a series of injections just under the skin with a fine needle and/or a cannula. Even though the procedure is simple, it does require that the injector has expertise and experience as well as a good eye for integration and augmentation of the skin and tissue being treated to obtain the best results. Joie De Vivre MedSpa of Chattanooga only has expert injectors performing all fillers and injectables.

Due to the anesthetics provided, most patients feel no pain or discomfort during their treatments.
Unlike invasive procedures or surgeries, most patients will experience nothing more than some redness and swelling near the injection sites. Some tenderness and bruising are possible, and patients are pre- and post-treated with Arnica. Most side effects resolve within two to seven days.
Injectables do not require any recovery time, and you can head back to work immediately following your appointment.
Because injectable fillers are considered to be purely cosmetic procedures, they are generally not covered by insurance.

There are a number of variables that must be taken into consideration when determining the cost of your treatment, such as the combination of products and services that are used. In order to ensure dermal fillers and injectables are affordable for everyone, Joie De Vivre MedSpa of Chattanooga accepts personal checks, cash, and credit cards. You may also be able to obtain financing through Care Credit. All costs and expectations are discussed during the initial consultation.

The longevity of the results varies between every patient and the filler that is used. Fillers are generally not a permanent treatment, and most patients will need periodic treatments to maintain the results. Juvederm® and fat injections typically last for around six months, while Belotero®, Versa®, Restylane®, Juvederm® Ultra and Ultra Plus often last for nine to 12 months. Both Voluma® and Sculptra® are considered to be long-term treatments and can last for two years or longer. Radiesse® generally lasts for around 18 months.

If you are ready to look years younger without the lengthy recovery of plastic surgery, then it is time to take a fresh look at dermal fillers and injectables. The team at Joie De Vivre MedSpa of Chattanooga is only a phone call away to help you get started with some of the most advanced cosmetic treatments in the world. Contact us today!
